Plastic-Free Bubble Bath

Plastic-Free Bubble Bath

I’m more of a bath person than a shower person. Lately I’ve been trying to find ways of eliminating plastic bottles from my life. I found that it isn’t that easy to do this for bubble baths.

Yes, I can buy a bath bomb. But there’s no way I’m paying $8 – $25 every time I want to take a bath.

I expected to find companies who make tablets you can dissolve in water. But nobody makes such a thing. But I think I finally found a hidden way to do this. It turns out that some bubble baths are sold in glass bottles. They don’t really advertise this (which is a shame; they could totally bill this as ‘plastic free.’) But you can tell from the product pictures.

So here are some brands I’ve found. Some I’ve ordered and am awaiting arrival, some I plan to try next:

Soap Cherie Bubble Bath

Soap Cherie
They’re a little pricey (about $2.67/ounce) but their product contains Dead Sea ingredients and comes in a nifty 12 oz champaign bottle. You can buy these in person at an Anthropologie store which can be found in a lot of shopping malls.

Bubble Elixir

Barr-Co
The price is better (about $1.50/ounce). They have these squat little 16 ounce bottles of bubble elixir. Can also be found at Anthropologie.

UPDATE: I tried this and was disappointed. Pleasant fragrance but very few bubbles.

Natural Honey Bubble Bath

Natural Honey Bubble Bath
I found this on Etsy. Turns out Etsy is a great place to find bubble bath in glass bottles. It’s about $1.50/ounce.

UPDATE: I also tried this. I have a love/hate relationship with it. The product itself was great and left my skin soft, but it had very few bubbles. They set my expectations by calling it bubble bath. If they called this a honey bath, I would have really loved it. Also the cork stopper is a little hard to take on and off without leaving little cork bits behind, and the spoon which comes with it is tiny, only about 1/2 teaspoon.

Goat's Milk Bubble Bath

Goat’s Milk Bubble Bath

From Olive Drab Farm. I also found these on Etsy but they’re available from their website too. They come in cute little milk bottles. About $1.25/ounce.

UPDATE: Turns out it comes in PLASTIC milk bottles, so I won’t be reordering.

Michel Design Works

This might be the winner for me! It comes in an elegant glass bottle with a stopper, they have quite a few fragrances to choose from, and it’s only about $1.57/ounce.

There are a few different ways to buy it:

If you live near a Paper Store, you can buy it from them and pick it up in person:

You can buy a single bottle from Amazon and get free shipping if you’re a Prime member, but it’s more expensive (I saw it for $24 – $34 which is about $1.89 – $2.88/ounce.)

You can buy it from the Michel Design Works website which is what I did. If you buy two bottles they’ll give you free shipping:

And I’ve also found that some companies use aluminum bottles which are also 100% recyclable such as:

Lavande

L’Occitane (affiliate link if you want to try it and support this site too)

So, anyway, my discovery is that a lot of things come in non-plastic packaging even if they aren’t advertised as zero waste. You just have to dig a little to find them.
